Some sad news to start off the day. Mexican actor Ricardo Montalban passed away Wednesday night. He was 88 years old. He his best known for his role on the popular TV series Fantasy Island, where he played Mr. Roarke. He won an Emmy for his performance in How the West Was Won and a Tony nomination in 1958 for Jamaica. In recent work, he lent his voice to Disney’s Kim Possible as well as an episode of Family Guy. Man I loved Fantasy Island growing up, except for that little kid who was always hanging around with Mr. Roarke.

 

 

Jennifer Hudson has agreed to sing the national anthem at next month’s Super Bowl game in Tampa, Fla., E! Online reported. The Feb. 1 performance will mark the first time Hudson will sing in public since her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were shot to death in Chicago in October, allegedly by her brother-in-law. “She certainly can nail it,’” a source told E! of Hudson’s rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” “She proved it at the Democratic National Convention.” Hudson won an Oscar for her work in the movie musical Dreamgirls. She also has appeared in the films The Secret Life of Bees and Sex and the City. No bigger audience to stage your big come back than The Super Bowl.

   

 

Speaking of performances, Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, and Katy Perry have signed on to perform at the 51st annual Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles. The artists, all of whom are current Grammy nominees, are scheduled to sing at the February 8 event, which will be broadcast live from the Staples Center on CBS, the network said. Lil Wayne leads the Grammy field with eight nominations: Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for Tha Carter III; Best Rap Solo Performance for “A Milli;” two nods in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category for “Swagga Like Us” and “Mr. Carter;” Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Got Money” and two nods for Best Rap Song for “Lollipop” and “Swagga Like Us.” It looks really to be a whose – who from 2008 in the music year. Except for one exception. Where the hell is Rhianna?

 

 

 

BSB star Howie Dorough is to be a first-time father. The 35-year-old singer and his wife Leigh are expecting a child in June. The pair was enjoying its lives as a young married couple, traveling with the band after their December 2007 wedding, but were left considering their priorities after the death of Dorough’s father, Hoke, last June. And the star insists starting his own family became his main focus following the tragedy. He tells People.com, “That kind of put things into perspective – passing on and bringing new life into the world. “At that point we started focusing in on having a child. The baby is due the same month that my dad passed away last year, so it’s almost like realizing life is a circle.” And the star’s 34-year-old wife is adamant her pop star beau will make a great dad. Well that is a tax write-off that can help him save money. Given he has fallen out of the spotlight and everything.

 

Mr. Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears avoided an awkward late-night meeting on Monday after they found themselves in the same Los Angeles restaurant. Timberlake was enjoying a romantic supper with girlfriend Jessica Biel at the tiny Yatai Asian Tapas Bar when his ex, Spears, turned up with her mother. A fellow diner tells UsWeekly.com, It was uncomfortable… Jessica and Justin looked to be slumping down in their seats to avoid her. She left 30 minutes later. Shortly afterward, Justin and Jessica got in their car and left.” The last time the former couple almost met came backstage at Madonna’s Los Angeles concert last year, when both stars performed onstage at Dodgers stadium with the Material Girl star. I bet the sexual tension between them was insane.

 

 

First Jennifer Aniston gave him a second shot, now John Mayer the television world is giving him another chance, too. Mayer will tape a pilot for a CBS variety show, network entertainment president Nina Tassler confirmed Wednesday at the Television Critics Association conference in L.A. “He came to us,” Tassler told PEOPLE of Mayer. “He has a very strong point of view. He knows his audience really well; he knows his brand of humor really well.” Tassler says the project is in the early stages of development, and that Mayer “is driving the creative development.” She added, “He has an objective of using music to communicate and engage.” Mayer, 31, hosted a short-lived VH1 show in 2004 called John Mayer Has a TV Show. Whether the CBS project will evolve into a series or will be a one-time broadcast remains to be seen. Well that is a show that I would not let infest my Tivo.

 

 

With a shortened audition portion this season, what are viewers who tune in to Idol expressly for the simple joy of watching non-serious wannabes parade in front of the judges to do? No worries, there’s plenty of fun to be had at the expense of, oh, the judges and host Ryan Seacrest. Case in point: last night’s open auditions in Phoenix. Scott Macintyre, the first blind singer on Idol, nails his audition and receives a golden ticket to Hollywood. He comes out to a roar of applause. The touching moment then veers off into oh-no-he-didn’t-just-do-that territory when Seacrest jumps in for a congratulatory high-five. Care to see the clip? Here it is.

And finally, speaking of Idol, It’s official: David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell are no longer an item. Cook, the winner of Idol season seven, and Caldwell, a season two contestant, have broken up amicably, says Caldwell’s rep. “Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays. The couple remain good friends and being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time.” Cook’s rep also confirmed the split. The duo, both 26, started their relationship shortly after Cook’s Idol win in May 2008, with the rocker publicly asking Caldwell on a date on the red carpet before the seventh season finale. Well see the problem is his star is on the rise, and she is on the strip club circuit.

Low-budget movies blew by their major studio rivals at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday as romance “Slumdog Millionaire” won a leading four honors, including best drama to give it a push in the race for Oscars. “Slumdog,” which tells of a young Indian man looking for love and competing for money on a television game show, also earned awards for director Danny Boyle, screenwriter Simon Beaufoy and composer A.R. Rahman for best musical score. Boyle thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which gives out the Golden Globe Awards, for supporting his movie that captures the frenetic pace of life in Mumbai. “Your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated, really deeply appreciated,” Boyle said. “The film was made from the heart, really. We never expected to be here.” In other major honors, director Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” was named best film musical or comedy but Allen was not on hand to accept the award. A big surprise of the night came when Kate Winslet grabbed two Golden Globes, only the third time in the history of the awards that one performer has won two acting awards. Is it bad I fell asleep at the 10:00 mark? Eh it is on my Tivo.

 

 

 

Ryan Seacrest knows where he stands, at least when it comes to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. On his KIIS-FM radio show Monday, the host talked about Jolie ignoring his interview request on the Golden Globes red carpet, where he acted as host for E! Sunday.  As he tried to get close to the couple, he said, “Hi, guys. Brad? Angelina?” he said, but they acted as if they didn’t hear him. “I don’t think Angelina thinks I’m that important,” he said on his show Monday. “I don’t think I’m top of mind for Brad and Angelina. Next, The jailed husband of Miss Amy Winehouse, has begun divorce proceedings after seeing pictures of her with another man, an attorney says. Blake Fielder-Civil, who has been imprisoned since failing a court-ordered drug test last month, has instructed celebrity lawyer Henri Brandman to initiate divorce proceedings against Winehouse, UK’s Daily Mail reported Sunday. Brandman told the British tabloid Fielder-Civil had instructed him to launch the action on the grounds of Winehouse’s alleged adultery. Sources said Blake will would attempt to collect half the singer’s $15 million fortune. The moves comes after Winehouse told another British tabloid, The News of the World, she has kicked her drug habit for good and admitted she had “forgotten I’m even married” to Fielder-Civil, claiming, “our whole marriage was based on doing drugs.” Well that is totally for the best. He is your typical enabler.

 

 

 

 

Seems like Vanessa Hudgens would like to take a bite out of Twilight sequel, New Moon.  Ashley Greene, who plays Alice, tells MTV.com that Hudgens auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, a werewolf who will be the foil to Jacob Lautner’s Jacob Black. No word on whether she got the part, though she does have one person rooting for her.   “I think she’d be great,” Greene tells MTV. Greene also spills more Twilight gossip: “I hear they’re doing another rewrite,[on New Moon]” she said. “I’m with you guys — I’m so excited to read it.” Am I the only one who thinks she is going to ruin it?

 

 

 

Kid Rock is baffled by people who enter rehabilitation for substance abuse – because he is adamant it is possible to take drugs and continue living life as normal. The “All Summer Long” star can see the downward spiral some people take when abusing drugs – but insists others can simply “have a fun night”. He tells Q magazine, “I do not understand rehab. If it works for people then God bless them. People have different personalities. “Some people do a line of cocaine and start selling their TVs and their guitar and everything else. Other people do it, have a fun night and go about their business.” But the rocker admits his personality changes when he drinks excessively. He adds, “I have been to anger management twice. After the first session the lady was like, ‘Baby, you don’t seem that angry at all. You seem like a really nice guy.’ I go, ‘That’s the way I feel too. I think that the judge made a mistake when he sentenced me. I think he probably should have sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous because I do have a drinking problem.’ Hum, but you have to admit that Celebrity Rehab on VH1 is quite addictive.

 

 

Fergie and Josh Duhamel were married Saturday under magnolia trees filled with thousands of white roses, PEOPLE confirms. The Black Eyed Peas singer, 33, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana gown, and the actor, 36, tied the knot at the Church Estates Vineyards in Malibu. Fergie carried a bouquet of white flowers studded with crystals as the couple exchanged H. Stern rings engraved with personal messages. Ten bridesmaids were dressed in contrasting black. Fergie’s specially-designed engagement ring featured a 4-carat brilliant cut diamond set amid other diamonds. A narrowed diamond wedding band completed the set. Duhamel’s ring was made of white gold with a brushed finish. I guess my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail.

 

 

Patrick Swayze has pneumonia and has checked himself into a hospital for observation, it was revealed Friday at a press event for the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles. “As we arrived here this morning we have some news,” said A&E president Abbe Raven. “Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery.” Bob DeBitetto, the president and general manager of A&E, delivered the news that Swayze had decided to check himself into the hospital after he came down with pneumonia. Well this is a sad turn of events.

 

 

“Voice of an Angel” singer Charlotte Church and her rugby player boyfriend Gavin Henson welcomed their second child, it was announced on her Web Site. “He was born just after midnight at her and Gavin’s home with Gavin in attendance at the birth,” it says in the posting. No name has been announced, but, reads the blog, “we can confirm that he weighed in at 7 lb., 5 oz., and that mum and baby are both doing just fine.” “Here we go again!!!” Church, 22, and Henson, 26, said last June, when they announced her pregnancy. And to think I thought she just got fat. Oh I Kid, congrats to the happy couple.

 

 

 

And finally, Don’t worry folks, it’s legal. They may play brother and sister on Dexter, but in real life Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter were lawfully wed on New Year’s Eve, according to Hall’s rep, Craig Bankey. The outdoor ceremony was held in Big Sur. Hall, 37, and Carpenter, 29, plan to appear together at this year’s Golden Globes Awards on Sunday. People Magazine last caught up with Carpenter at the Emmys in September, where she answered the question, Who’s the sexiest man alive? with ease: “Michael C Hall!,” she said. “He’s the sexiest man alive. He’s one of the best we’ve got. He’s an incredible talent and if anyone deserves accolades, it’s him.” I know they are T.V. Siblings but still it is a little creepy.

Oprah Winfrey said on her U.S. talk show this week that eating well and exercising will be high on her list of priorities in the new year. Winfrey, who admits she has gained 40 pounds since 2005, said on Monday’s show her busy schedule left her unable to sleep and experiencing heart palpitations. She also confided to her audience she had “given up” on herself and realized her life was out of balance, the Chicago Sun-Times said. Winfrey adviser and fitness expert Bob Greene said he told the media giant last year he thought she was mildly depressed. “I felt she was losing her zest for life,” the Sun-Times quoted Greene as saying. “When my engine runs down, my drug of choice is food. This year, it was organic multigrain blue chips … but a bag of them,” Winfrey said. “So, you eat a bag of those a day, and see what happens if you’re not working out.” Winfrey said she plans to change all that this year. “When you love yourself enough, you take care of yourself. You have to make yourself a priority,” she said. I wonder if I should text her my New Years Resolution that I mentioned in Monday’s update.

 

 

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are celebrating after welcoming their second daughter into the world. Details surrounding the birth are not yet known, but a representative for the Hollywood couple insists mother and child are doing well. The spokesperson tells People.com, “Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck gave birth to a healthy baby girl.” The pair is already parents to three-year-old Violet. After the pregnancy was announced in August, Affleck made it known he wouldn’t chose an unorthodox name for his second child, preferring traditional names over “trendy” Hollywood ones. As long as they don’t name it purple I am a happy couple.

 

 

Well this is an interesting Part B to a story I did on Monday. California socialite Nicole Richie is reportedly set to join New York’s elite with an appearance on hit show Gossip Girl. Richie proved her acting skills with a guest starring role as a vicious cheerleader on TV action/comedy Chuck in October. And now she’s said to be eyeing a similarly snooty role on the season finale of the teenage series, slated to air later this year. A source tells the New York Daily News, “Nicole loves Gossip Girl and she wants a really bitchy, juicy role.” That would be pretty damn sweet, getting both Michelle Trachtenberg back in the show and now Nicole Richie? Nice.

 

 

Actress Jodie Sweetin is attempting to work through her marriage and custody troubles amicably to avoid a drawn-out court battle with estranged husband Cody Herpin. The former Full House star, 26, filed for legal separation from Herpin, 31, in November – seven months after she gave birth to the couple’s first child. Herpin then accused Sweetin, a reformed crystal meth addict and alcoholic, of once again abusing alcohol and drugs, and she was limited to supervised visits with her daughter. At a hearing in December, Sweetin admitted to having had two glasses of wine, but denied she had relapsed in her battle against drugs. But Sweetin’s lawyer Wilma Presley insists the actress and her ex “are working hard to avoid a protracted custody battle”. The couple met for its first mediation session earlier this week at a court in Orange County, California, and Presley adds, “They are trying to work things out regarding the sharing of their child. As far as reconciliation as a couple goes, in family law, you just never know.” Cant she just give control of her kid to Danny Tanner. He was the bomb.

 

 

 

Looks like Donna Martin will return to 90210 after all! Tori Spelling is in “final negotiations” to return to the world’s most famous zip code, a show rep confirms to People Magazine. The actress, who was set to star in the CW’s spin-off when it was announced — but then had “no plans” to join the show for its fall debut — is close to finalizing a deal to be in multiple episodes. Ok, now just bring back Brandon, and I am a more than happy camper.

 

 

Alyssa Milano is engaged, her rep confirms to PEOPLE. Milano, 36, will marry David Bugliari, an agent at the Creative Arts Agency. The couple have been dating for more than a year. Bugliari proposed with a ring he designed that was made by Jim Lavi at Daniel Jewelry in La Jolla. No further information about their nuptials – including a wedding date – has been announced. Milano was previously married to Cinjun Tate. The couple split in 1999. Milano has most recently been in seen in NBC’s comedy My Name Is Earl in a recurring role. All I know if growing up in the 80’s I had two celebrity crushes. Marcia Brady, and her.

She’s expected to begin her first headlining tour later in the year, and she’s already slated to be the musical guest on the first new episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” airing this Saturday. Taylor’s inaugural appearance on the venerable live show from New York has a poetic ring to it. She notched her first hit with the single “Tim McGraw.” The song’s namesake made his own first appearance on “SNL” the weekend before Thanksgiving. Mine is already programmed and I am G2G.
