Let me start off with the most important story of the day. She’s acted alongside Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen’s “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” and now, Scarlett Johansson follows in Cruz’s footsteps as the next face of Spanish retailer Mango. Johansson will soon be in an advertising spread near you as part of Mango’s fall/winter 2009 campaign. The successful young actress, whose critically-acclaimed roles in “Lost in Translation,” “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and “Match Point” have solidified her place among the ranks of the top American film stars, was chosen to represent Mango for “embodying the ideal Mango woman: chic, independent and cosmopolitan…Johansson exudes a confident demeanor while remaining youthful and playful,” the company said in a statement. Damn, I didn’t know I was a Spanish retailer.
Eminem stormed out of the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night after outrageous funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen literally landed in his lap. The rapper had just performed a medley of new hits and was sitting in the audience when the daring Brit – as his Austrian fashion expert character Bruno – flew overhead in a dove outfit, chanting, “Ich bin Bruno. Ich bin dove of peace.” Cohen’s outrageous alter-ego ’suffered’ an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction – baring his naked backside, he landed upside down on rapper Eminem’s lap. The “Stan” hit maker screamed, “Are you serious? Are you f***in’ serious?” as his entourage rushed to free the rapper. What appeared to be a joke quickly turned awkward when it seemed apparent that Eminem wasn’t in on the gag. As a suspended Cohen cracked jokes about the incident, stating, “Is the real Slim Shady about to stand up?” Eminem and his entourage left their seats and walked out of the Universal Amphitheater. Ha, it really was damn funny. I am thinking it was all a gag.
Speaking of the MTV Movie Awards, Twilight delivered a huge sucker punch at the MTV Movie Awards, picking up five honors including the Best Film prize in Los Angeles. The vampire love story’s stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart picked up prizes for Breakthrough Performance (Male) and Best Female Performance respectively, and they shared the night’s Best Kiss honor at the ceremony on Sunday. Pattinson also shared the Best Fight award with another Twilight co-star, Cam Gigandet. Meanwhile, Pattinson and Stewart joined Taylor Lautner to introduce the world premiere trailer for Twilight sequel New Moon. The award show’s other multi-winner was High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, which had six nominations, won nothing. The event featured live performances from Eminem and Kings of Leon and was capped off by a series of hilarious skits, hosted by comedian Andy Samberg. Good for Twilight, even thought I don’t fully understand the mass appeal of that movie.
British internet singing star Susan Boyle has been admitted to a private clinic after being beaten into second place in the final of the popular “Britain’s Got Talent” television contest, British media reported. Dowdy and unglamorous, Boyle seemed an unlikely star when she first appeared on the show in April, only to stun the judges and win popular acclaim with her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables.” Boyle, 48, had been heavily backed to beat nine other finalists on Saturday after clips of her earlier appearance were downloaded nearly 200 million times and she was hailed the world over as a superstar. But according to the Sun newspaper, she suffered an “emotional breakdown” at her hotel in London on Sunday. A police spokesman confirmed that officers had been called to a London hotel “to doctors attending a woman under the mental health act.” Yeah, maybe it is a good thing that nut job didn’t win.
Kimora Lee Simmons’ publicist says the model and reality show star has given birth to a son in Los Angeles. The child was born Saturday and is the first for Simmons — the ex-wife of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons — and her current beau, film actor Djimon Hounsou. The newborn’s name had not yet been publicly announced. “Kimora and Djimon are the proud parents of a new baby boy. Both mother and child are doing great,” Simmons’ representative told TV’s Access Hollywood. Simmons also has two daughters with her ex-husband. Good for her, babies are a good thing and they save relationships…Right?
Rihanna is reportedly fuming after intimate photos of her with ex-lover Chris Brown were leaked on the internet. A set of snapshots showing the former couple kissing and cuddling surfaced online over the weekend. One of the photographs pictures the pair lying in bed, with Brown kissing his lover tenderly on the neck. The shots are believed to have been taken before their alleged fight in February which left Rihanna battered and bruised, and Brown facing assault charges. The latest images come just two weeks after naked pictures of Rihanna, real name Robyn Fenty, were leaked on to the internet – one of which showed Rihanna in front of a mirror with the message: “I love you Robyn. I miss you” scribbled on the glass. Gossips speculated that the “Kiss Kiss” hit maker was responsible for the photos appearing, but his representatives were quick to blast the reports. The star subsequently released a video attempting to salvage his reputation, insisting he’s “not a monster”. Brown will appear in a Los Angeles court later this month on charges of assault and making criminal threats, stemming from his alleged clash with Rihanna after a pre-Grammy Awards party in February. What have I said 100% times, never ever take naked pictures of yourself, it will leak at sometime.
Pete Wentz’s New York bar has been temporarily closed amid allegations staff served alcohol to minors. The Fall Out Boy star part-owns the Angels and Kings venue in Manhattan, along with members of Gym Class Heroes and Cobra Starship. But the bar, which opened in 2007, has been shut down for three days amid claims alcoholic drinks had been served to underage customers. Celebrity website Gawker.com is reporting Angels and Kings was closed by the New York Police Department (NYPD). The site has also posted photographs of the venue’s front door, which has been plastered with a police notice which states the bar has been “closed by court order” over the “illegal sale of alcoholic beverages to minors.” But the bar’s website reports the venue is currently shut for “maintenance work.” Um, that is not cool. I never drank as a minor, or did a hey mister in the liquor store parking lot.
‘Biggest Loser’ trainer Jillian Michaels reveals why she and contestant Filipe Fa fought on screen — he accused her of doping her team. “Filipe said, ‘I think Jillian is giving people drugs.’ We had an entire ‘Kenneth Starr’ investigation. Because the minute someone makes that claim, you have to. They didn’t shut down production, but it took a week. I was so furious, so disgusted. I felt so betrayed,” Michaels told TV Guide Magazine. Filipe had been working with Michaels’ co-trainer Bob Harper. But when producers forced everyone to switch, things got a little ugly. “Filipe didn’t want to train with me,” Michaels said. She then refused to work with him, herself. “When he said, ‘You didn’t train me,” I said, ‘You’re damn right I didn’t train you!’ I literally couldn’t speak to him,” she admitted. Fa tells a different story. “We had some issues, obviously, with us switching teams. There was never an accusation about her giving drugs,” the Season 7 contestant said. Well that is not good, drugs are never the answer.
And finally, Actress Lori Petty, 45, was arrested Saturday night on felony drunk driving charges after hitting a 14-year-old skateboarder in Venice, Calif. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident at 9:30 p.m. The skateboarder was treated for his injuries and released. Petty, who starred in Point Break, Tank Girl and A League of Their Own, was booked into the Van Nuys jail and eventually released on $100,000 bail. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said the circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear. Detectives with the LAPD’s traffic division will determine if a follow-up investigation is necessary. Petty’s blood-alcohol level isn’t being released at this time. Damn, she hit a skateboarder? That’s not cool at all.
