A DJ Legend Dies
Monday, August 31st, 2009Happy Monday Kiddies and away I go.
Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, has been hired as a contributing correspondent for the “Today” show, NBC said. Hager — a teacher, author and young leadership ambassador and chairwoman for UNICEF’s Next Generation committee — will be based in Washington and will cover a variety of human interest and feature stories for the popular morning news program, the network said. The announcement was made Monday by “Today” executive producer, Jim Bell, and is effective Sept. 14. “Jenna is a terrific addition to the ‘Today’ team,” Bell said in a statement. “In previous appearances, she displayed a natural ability to communicate and connect. She has great passion about important subjects, especially education and literacy, and we look forward to having her bring her unique perspective to ‘Today.’” Is it bad I still chuckle every time I say bush?

Investigators are categorizing DJ AM’s death in New York last week as an accidental drug overdose, not a suicide, law enforcement sources told TMZ. AM (real name Adam Goldstein), a celebrity disc jockey, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Friday. He was 36. An autopsy conducted the following day proved inconclusive. Officials said a cause of death will not be announced until toxicology and other tests are reviewed. Sources told TMZ Goldstein, a recovering drug addict, developed a dependency on Xanax and other anxiety-relieving benzodiazepines after he and rock musician Travis Barker survived a Learjet crash that left four people dead last year. Goldstein was taking the medication because he had developed a terrible fear of flying after the crash, but still needed to travel by air for work, the insiders told the Web site. The prescriptions triggered a relapse, but Goldstein had not been abusing other drugs, namely crack cocaine, again long before his death, the sources said. One insider emphasized the disc jockey’s death had “absolutely nothing to do with his recent breakup” with a girlfriend as has been implied in some media reports. Man, he replaced one drug with other.

“Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis says he did not attack reality TV personality Brody Jenner’s girlfriend at a Los Angeles nightclub. Francis said in a “Wild” release Friday that Jenner’s allegation that he attacked Jenner’s girlfriend Thursday at the nightclub Guys and Dolls were false, instead suggesting he was the victim of an unprovoked attack by Jenner. “Jenner’s public accusations that I punched and kicked his girlfriend are false, outrageous, and slanderous,” Francis said. “Someone shoved me from behind, then hurled a drink at me, glass and all,” the founder of the “Wild” video series added. “I turned to see who it was, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground, with Brody Jenner ripping at my shirt.” The “Wild” release said multiple witnesses have supported Francis’ take on the incident, insisting Francis never threw a punch during the altercation. Jenner told TMZ.com his companion, Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole, was attacked by Francis after she doused Francis with a drink for harassing one of her acquaintances. Does Joe Francis creep anyone else up beside me?

John Krasinski’s publicist said the actor and British actress Emily Blunt are planning to marry. Krasinski is best known for his work on TV’s “The Office.” Blunt’s film credits include “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Jane Austen Book Club.” The couple reportedly began dating last November. “We can confirm that John and Emily are engaged,” the actor’s representative told People.com. The magazine did not say when the stars plan to tie the knot. Good for them, even though I have a little crush on Emily Blumt.

Chris Brown has said that he still loves Rihanna. The former girlfriend he pleaded guilty to assaulting last February. Brown, 20, was sentenced last week to six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling after pleading guilty June 22 to felony assault. He was also placed on probation for five years and ordered to stay away from Rihanna, 21, for five years. CNN quoted Brown as saying in a “Larry King Live” interview set to air Wednesday that, despite the circumstances, he still loves Rihanna. The singer also admitted he is haunted by a widely circulated photo showing his ex’s bruised and battered face after he beat her up during a heated argument in a car. “When I look at it now, it’s just like, wow, like, I can’t believe that that actually happened,” Brown said, adding he doesn’t remember hitting Rihanna. However, he also said he has every intention of complying with the sentence he received for doing so. “They want me to pick up trash, remove graffiti,” he said. “I’m a hard worker; it’s something I’m willing to do.” Oh please Rihanna, stay away from him. He is super Shady.

In one of her first interviews since announcing her departure from American Idol, Paula Abdul reveals why she left her post on the judges’ panel — and wasn’t just about money “I had to stand on my principle,” Abdul, 47, tells TV Guide. “I’m going to miss the experience of watching young talent evolve into a place where they get to take off and soar.” The former Idol judge, who calls the show an “amazing experience,” says her decision wasn’t solely about a paycheck dispute. “I stand on principle where many people stand on money,” she says. “I’m a hard-working artist. I’ve lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can’t do that unless you are good at what you do.” See Kayne, she is not a gold digger.

She may be all for supporting her friends on The Hills, but when it comes to cheering on the budding musical career of Heidi Montag; Audrina Patridge isn’t exactly her costar’s No. 1 fan. “I feel like Heidi, you know, she’s doing it for fun, where a lot of singers and people, they work their ass off, and they actually have amazing voices and they can really sing and perform, and I feel like a lot of people don’t get to experience what Heidi has, going on in front of a billion people and perform on TV,” Patridge told PEOPLE while promoting her new movie Sorority Row over the weekend. “I just don’t think she’s taking it that serious, and that’s what’s kind of disappointing for me, for music lovers out there.” Well Duh Audrina, who is?

Though the outside temperature topped out at around 115 degrees, Jon Gosselin may have been this weekend’s hottest thing in Las Vegas. With his mother and four friends in tow, the father of eight hosted a much-hyped Vegas pool party Saturday. It wasn’t long before he was surrounded by women. Moments after walking into his private cabana at MGM Grand’s Wet Republic, several females from the adjacent VIP area approached the tabloid regular. Gosselin seemed at ease with the arrivals as they hung out in his cabana while he ordered Vueve Clicquot Champagne, water and trays of food. Well anything to keep the food on the table. And if it means appearing at a Vegas club, well than rock on.

Oasis founder and front man Noel Gallagher has left his brother Liam and their band after a bitter backstage brawl outside Paris on Friday night. In a statement posted on the band’s web site just hours after the band failed to appear at the Rock en Seine in St. Cloud, Gallagher, apologizing “to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan,” announced: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight … I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” The band was scheduled to headline the French festival in Paris Friday, but sources tell PEOPLE that an altercation between the brothers forced organizers to announce the cancellation. Amy MacDonald, who had already appeared at the concert, twittered that Oasis “cancelled again with one minute to stage time!!! Liam smashed Noel’s guitar, huuuge fight!” Um 1994 called they want their relevant bands back.

And finally, Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” may be the longest running song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but the hippie-friendly jam has been around even longer. Mraz has played the song on tour for five years, and he said fans at live shows always responded differently to it, inspiring him to release the song as a single. “The song was really born into the crowd. … I noticed almost an immediate response to it and people really celebrated in a different way during that song,” he said in a phone interview. “And then by having those three years to jam to the song, it gave us the opportunity to do something simple, yet spirited” in the studio. “And now of course, that we’ve been playing with people really owning it on the record, it’s taken it to a whole new level,” he said. Good for him, big fan, big fan
