Neil Patrick Harris kicked off the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards with a Broadway-style number about television. They had an interesting stage setup this year with the band and the control room right on stage. Tina Fey and Jon Hamm were the first presenters for Supporting Actress in a Comedy, when they cut to the nominees a lot of them had strange glasses except of course Vanessa Williams, who just mouthed “no.” Kristin Chenoweth from “Pushing Daises” won and cried quite a bit for a comedy actress. Backstage she mentioned that she “was not expecting to cry.” The odds for Writing in a Comedy Series were good for “30 Rock” as it was nominated 3 times and Matt Hubbard won for “The Reunion” for “30 Rock.” Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler presented for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and joked that it’s an award that “can be bought.” John Cryer from “Two and Half Men” won and was wearing a really terrible bumblebee striped sweater vest that distracted from anything he said. During his speech he said that the Emmy was Charlie Sheen’s but backstage he said that he is indeed going to keep it. He also mentioned that his outfit was modeled off Moschino model. Tony Collette won for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for “The United States of Tara” and Alec Baldwin won as Lead Actor in a comedy series for “30 Rock” to which he said he would gladly trade for Rob Lowe’s looks. Yeah, you choose stupid Toni Colette over Tina Fey? Lame.
Speaking of the Emmy’s. Former couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff argued before and after their dance performance at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, a witness said. The “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancers, who also recently appeared together in the stage show “Burn the Floor,” announced this month they had ended their engagement. ”They were going at it, screaming at each other,” an eyewitness told E! News. “He said she was taking too long in hair and makeup. It got kind of loud.” However, Smirnoff said she was pleased with their performance on the awards show. ”It was nerve-racking, especially when we heard the announcer say, ‘From “Dancing with the Stars…,” ‘ ” Karina told E! “My heart jumped out a couple of times, but then I was like, ‘Enjoy this because how often do you get to perform at the Emmys?’ And then it just felt like it went very fast. I wanted to do it a couple of more times to really get into it.” Yeah, I do love a good lover’s fight.
Actor and TV personality David Hasselhoff was hospitalized Sunday after his daughter called for help saying he was extremely drunk, sources told TMZ. Hasselhoff, who reportedly has had a drinking problem for many years, is a judge on the popular reality competition series “America’s Got Talent,” which wrapped its most recent season last week. TMZ said Hayley Hasselhoff, 17, called her mother, Pamela, telling her David was intoxicated, and one of Pamela’s friends called 911. Paramedics then transported him from his Encino, Calif., home to the hospital, the entertainment news Web site said. Oh come on now, as the cool kids say, Don’t Hassel The Hoff.
Everybody’s favorite Canadian hosebag Avril Lavigne has confirmed on her blog that she and Deryck Whibley, her husband of three years, are separating. “Deryck and I have been together for six and a half years,” Lavigne wrote about her relationship with the 29-year-old Sum 41 front man. “We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note. … Thank you to all my family, friends and fans for all your support.” A source told Usmagazine.com Whibley “is crushed” by Lavigne’s decision. Eh, I just feel that she is one of those girls that should have her cooter and her mouth sewn shut.
John Travolta is preparing to testify in court next week against two people accused of attempting to extort millions of dollars from the star in the wake of his son’s death. Pleasant Bridgewater and ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne were allegedly involved in a $25 million plot to bribe Travolta and his grieving wife Kelly Preston in the hours after their teenage son Jett died in January. Still so sad.
Emily Blunt broke down in tears when John Krasinki proposed to her – and so did ‘The Office’ star. Krasinski asked the British actress to marry him last month and was overjoyed when she accepted – but the couple’s emotions soon got the better of them. He tells Access Hollywood, “It was very casual. I was nervous and the whole nine yards. ”She did cry. I cried and we cried and then everyone around us was crying. Then, I think people weren’t really sure what was going on, but they were crying because we were crying. But it was great. At the end of the day she said yes which is great. It’ a big part of this whole thing.” But the pair’s, dating since November, aren’t planning children any time soon. Krasinski adds, “I think we’re going to take our time with that, hopefully.” Hum, does anyone else smell a new Hollywood super couple?
Starlet Lindsay Lohan said via Twitter that rumors claiming she is in a hospital psychiatric ward are untrue. The 23-year-old former child actress, whose film credits include “The Parent Trap” and “Mean Girls,” has been better known in recent years for her legal woes, trips to rehab and public spats with her on-off girlfriend, Samantha Ronson. The New York Post reported Thursday that Lohan was spotted at a Manhattan fashion show this week, taking cards with celebrities’ names off of their assigned seats and throwing them on the floor, then yelling at security when they tried to get her to stop. “Hahahaha my publicist just called me & said she heard I was in a psych ward!!!! Hahaha WHAT IS WRONG with people???? I’m working lol,” People.com quoted Lohan as saying on Twitter Thursday morning. “BUT that’s one I’ve NEVER heard about myself before! … New ones r always interesting huh? There’s SO much more going on in the world! Wake up.” Lohan’s publicist told the magazine the actress is now in Texas shooting the thriller “Machete” with Robert DeNiro and Jessica Alba. Oh man, no rehab for Double L? I was sure that would make some good news for me to report on for years and years.
And finally, Wow, talk about a whirlwind romance! It’s been about a month since Khloe Kardashian’s and L.A. Lakers forward Lamar Odom began dating, and the couple are currently planning their wedding, two sources confirm to PEOPLE. Earlier this month, The Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami star’s older sister Kim told People, the couple, “They’re very, very happy. They’ve been together a few weeks, and are literally inseparable. Khloe thinks he’s amazing and makes her laugh and smile constantly.” Wow, I never knew Lamar Odom liked drag queens. Oh I kid.
